“Your SIM is Not Supported”

My mom switched mobile carriers and got a promotion for a new iPhone 14 Pro. Previously, she had an iPhone X. When trying to activate the eSIM on the iPhone14 Pro, it says the following: “Your SIM is Not Supported. This phone number can't be transferred because the number is not allowed by your carrier. Contact your carrier to unlock this device.”

Why is this happening and how can we get this phone to work with the new mobile carrier?

This is a new device so not understanding how this device is locked. Also, we requested her old device to be unlocked just in case and that was approved.

Please share thoughts with us.

Thanks!

Your Mom needs to follow the advice and contact her new network carrier. My best guess is she can't port her phone number from the old network to the new, and also shift to eSIM at the same time without some input from both networks. Then it seems that the new device might be SIM locked but you think that has been unlocked.

It might be possible to port the original phone number to the new network. That will depend where you live and the two networks (old and new) might have to work some technical magic.

Overall, follow the advice in the messages: “Your SIM is Not Supported. This phone number can't be transferred because the number is not allowed by your carrier. Contact your carrier to unlock this device.”

I suggest your best help will be from the new network, because they have an incentive to get the new customer happy. The old network might be less enthusiastic and slow to try and discourage her from leaving.
