Kindle app won’t sleep on iPad?

Finally found the solution. Was also having trouble with alarms on iPhone not communicating with Apple Watch before noticing iPad would no longer go into sleep mode while using Kindle app. Could be coincidental? SOLUTION: Delete Kindle app, reboot iPad, reinstall app after reboot. Worked on this for days before resolution.

iPad, iPadOS 16

I’ve had this same Kindle app problem happen several times, and I’ve had a couple solutions work for a whole, including turning off Touch ID, so I started paying attention to when it would occur. I’ve found that it happens nearly every time there’s an iOS update, and there is nothing you can do to resolve the Kindle app sleep issue but plug it in until the following updates eventually resolve everything. I don’t use the Auto Update feature, so I know exactly which apps are updated and when, which is why I noticed the pattern. I held my breath when I started the iOS 17.2 update last week. Sure enough, the Kindle app wouldn’t sleep, so I plugged Kindle in until the Kindle app update a couple days later. All’s well again.

Sadly, I would have to agree with you. That solution lasted for about 5 days and started acting up again, so I just gave up the frustration, hoping an update would eventually resolve the issue, and started just keeping my iPad plugged in all night.

Well, I have no idea why, but everything magically started working correctly again about 10 days ago, which coincidentally coincided with the date of the latest Kindle app update. This tells me our issue really has nothing to do with the settings on our iPads but with the app itself, whether that was the solely the Kindle app or a conflict between the Kindle app and another app. It’s a shame we can’t get the people who are supposedly knowledgeable to realize that so many of the users of their app having the exact same problem really should warrant a serious look into the problem and not excuses.
