I can't delete an app I just downloaded from web to my MacBookPro (11.7.10--Late 2013)
App does not work and I want to get rid of it. (I know I should not have trusted it!)
I have tried three methods suggested:
In option 2 to select app in Finder -- the "move to trash" option is greyed out

I tried drawing app to trash, then restarting MAC and then emptying trash.
Font Book.app is still in application file. App is not open -- not listed in my recent items list/
I don't see it in Force Quit list.
This is not a MAC OS file. I downloaded it from website. (yes, dumb thing to do.)
It does not work and I can't delete it.

I think you are mistaken.
Font Book is a built-in MacOS App, at least in MacOS 11 Big Sur. I have it in my Applicatiosn folder, and I don't do font work and would never have downloaded it.

Font Book is indeed an Apple app installed with the OS, and as such, cannot be deleted.
Drag it from the Applications folder to the trash.
Or use app AppCleaner. It's free and safe.
you can't Empty Trash when it contains something that is part of macOS or is still open. but if you:
move to trash.
Restart your Mac.
Empty trash.
that is much more likely to succeed.
