Need to permanently disable Apple watch fitness and calorie counting

I have a child with an Apple iWatch with an eating disorder. Counting steps and estimating calories is unhealthy for them. I know I can turn it off in settings, but they can turn it on just as easily.

Is there a way to permanently disable counting steps, monitoring exercise, and estimating calories? I don't want to take the watch away from them, just turn off the unhelpful features.

Hi RichthegeekJr,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. We understand you'd like to disable Apple Watch fitness and calorie counting. There are some features you can control. You can control activity reminders and suspend daily coaching as explained here: Track daily activity with Apple Watch.

"Control activity reminders

Reminders can help when it comes to meeting goals. Your Apple Watch lets you know if you’re on track or falling behind your activity goals. To choose which reminders and alerts you’d like to see, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app  on your Apple Watch.
  2. Tap Activity, then configure the notifications.

You can also open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap My Watch, then tap Activity.

Suspend daily coaching

To turn off activity reminders, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app  on your Apple Watch.
  2. Tap Activity, then turn off Daily Coaching.

You can also open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap My Watch, tap Activity, then turn off Daily Coaching."

Take care.

Apple doesn't read here in this user-to-user technical support forum for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:

I am interested in a more structural solution to this very intriguing question.

Unfortunately, the support is not really trying to understand the medical situation which of course is not their area of expertise.

On the long run, I believe that the lack of the necessary daily minerals and electrolytes like e.g. potassium might lead to heart conditions as the heart muscles will be negatively affected. Patients with an eating disorder should therefore be able to profit from the upsides/ advantages the Apple Watch offers, e.g. heart monitoring. At the same time they should be prevented for their own health from being able to switch on the appropriate activity reminders/ notifications and daily coaching.
