How to eliminate an apparent old or incorrect Apple ID

I just purchased a new iPad. I have it pretty much mirroring my iPhone. Unfortunately, the apps will not update on the iPad because when I am asked to log into the Apple Store, my personal Gmail address is displayed versus my Apple ID (user@me.com) as on my iPhone. There is no option to change the id during my log in attempts to the correct Apple ID.

How do I eliminate the Apple Store thinking I am logging in using my gmail account vs my Apple ID?

Hi gwilsonjr,

We appreciate you reaching out to us.

We’d like to gather additional details that may help us be in a better position to assist you.

When you initially set up the device, did you restore from a backup?

If yes, it is likely that one or more of your apps are downloaded using a different Apple ID.

We recommend that you delete the affected app or apps, then redownload.

gwilsonjr,

To help identify which app(s) are linked to the other Apple ID you may try first toggling off automatic app updates (Settings > App Store > App Updates).

After that, manually update each app individually when it comes up in the list. This page can help with that process if needed: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202180

When trying to update an app linked to the other Apple ID it would then prompt for that other Apple ID's info, which will confirm that a particular app isn't linked to the current Apple ID. Proceed to delete the affected app(s) from the device as normal. You can then re-download them, if desired, from the App Store and this will link that app to the existing Apple ID.

Cheers.

I did, indeed, set up my new iPad from a backup I had made from my iPhone. I thought this would best ensure the devices were as similar as possible.

I suspect that means the condition exists on both devices, but is showing up on the iPad because it is attempting to download all the apps based on the app placeholders from the restored backup.

Your explanation makes sense. The logical question now is how do I identify the apps downloaded under the second Appleid? Once identified, is it as simple as deleting them and then adding each again under the correct Appleid?
