MacBook Pro with macOS Sonoma crashes frequently and randomly.

Possible fix. I noticed that before each crash, which happened a couple of times a day on my new 15-inch MacBook Air, if I happened to be on the desktop when it happened, two or three of my widgets would go purple first, and then the whole screen would go purple and reboot. Not sure which ones went purple, though one was Contacts. I had the desktop covered with widgets. I recalled someone mentioning widgets as a possible cause, so I removed every one from the desktop two days ago. So far no crashes at all. Very stable. This is the longest I’ve gone without a crash so far. Could be coincidence, or it could be an interaction with a widget in the background when it crashes. I’ll wait another day or so, and if it remains stable, I’ll start putting them back on a couple at a time and see if I can find a culprit.

Is there a 14.2? I have .1 and just looked...nothing available (for me) beyond that.

Asking because my M1 mini Mac crashes daily now and I tried your idea of installing a clean version (for me that's 14.1).

Although I'm a simple user, I'm fairly sure this isn't a hardware issue. Anecdotal only, but my M1 chip mini Mac crashes at least daily now after Sonoma (usually at some point overnight), while my other machine (with an intel chip) hasn't crashed at all after updating.

Not an official public release, yet, only in the form of a b e t a. If you don’t see an option for “b e t updates” in System Settings > general > software update, then you just need to sign up for it. Google the public b e t a program and sign up Roth your Apple ID. (sorry, have to put spaces in that word, or they could remove the reply).

Three straight days since I removed all my widgets on my MacBook Air 15-inch, and still not a single crash. Tomorrow I will start adding them in, a couple at a time, to see if one or more caused the problem (at least in my case).

Last post for me: Every morning since I loaded Sonoma my M1 Mini has opened with a crash report. My other Mac has an intel chip and hasn't crashed once.

I started over with a clean install...still crashed. Two days ago I saw a comment here concerning the possibility that widgets are causing problems, so I removed all widgets.

I haven't had a crash since then. Anecdotal only; I'm not good at reading crash reports etc, but it seems to be (knock wood) running well now.

I really appreciate all the "me too" notes, actually, and definitely admire those of you with creative ideas on steps to at least try. Thanks to everyone.

I've recently bought a Mac Studio, Studio Display and 8TB LaCie d2 Professional external hard disk from Apple Store to eventually replace a 2017 iMac. The Mac Studio came with Sonoma pre-installed so I continued to use it.

I connected the Studio Display to the Mac via the Thunderbolt cable and connected the LaCie disk to one of the downstream USB-C sockets on the back of the display. I use the LaCie disk mainly for Time Machine backups.

I've been steadily installing my apps and transferring my files across, having found that the change from Intel to M2 Max processor was possibly one step too far for the Migration Assistant. (I use Parallels Desktop and Docker Desktop and these didn't migrate well between processor families).

I've noticed a certain amount of "flakiness" in the operation of the new computer. Little things like mouse right-click didn't work reliably (Fusion360), my Bluetooth devices were forgotten, Time Machine got stuck and program settings weren't being saved between sessions. The final straw came when I couldn't enter my password to unlock the screen saver and had to forcibly power the computer off. Having found this thread, I tried downgrading to Ventura but found little or no improvement in behaviour.

I think the flakiness may be linked to unreliable disk I/O with the LaCie disk connected via the Studio display so I have moved its cable to one of the Thunderbolt connectors on the back of the Mac Studio. It's early days so far, but the system seems much more stable now.

Macbook Prob 16" M1 Max, Sonoma 14.1

I'm starting to suspect that this is a problem related to the "Brave" app, a Chrome-based web browser. After installing Sonoma, Brave started randomly rebooting, and so did Sonoma. I used Brave as my default browser but have now switched back to Safari to see if Sonoma's situation improves. Well, apparently it works, I haven't had random restarts anymore...

macbook Pro 2020 with 32GB Memory 500gb and never had any issues until I upgraded to Sonoma!. Loss of productivity, AUDIO Issues, auto muting, complaints now from people on Teams and Gmeet. Rebooting daily. Rainbow spinner - reminding me of what life used to be like on Microsoft. Hmm..Uninstalled google and reinstalled, removed apps used less tabs and still BOOM!. System constantly freezings, fans go off like a plane is taking off. Also my shortcut to take a picture to show the issues stop working until I reboot full system. Camera that always works then basically says video issue with camera. You name it, it's happening. GREMLINS have taken over SONOMA or way too much Wine ;). I need a resolution to this fast cause my productivity is gone, I need a new personal laptop literally was waiting for the new M3, now delaying new purchase til I see resolution.
