Epson Driver Needed for 14.0 Mac OS

Hi. I downloaded the Sonoma 14.0 OS on my Mac. Great! Well, Epson has not yet obtained the DRIVER for the MAC 14.0 operating system. So, now my PRINT options are limited. I have two paper selections in Lightroom. I have an Epson Stylus Pro 3880

I have uninstalled and installed and called Epson. They said they are waiting on Apple to get the driver information. Any news?

Epson’s website says the driver for your Stylus Pro 3880 was released 10/11/2023 version 12.62 and supports maxOS 14. Go to Epson Support, enter your model and macOS 14.

They are stalling you. Epson does not obtain drivers; they create them. They would have had the Sonoma programming standards and requirement long before Sonoma was released to people like us. This sounds like Epson is behind on the project and blaming Apple wrongly.

Any news?

Not in these forums. As we are your fellow end users and not Apple, asking here does not make anything happen faster because Apple does not share their development processes with us.

NOTE: Printer makers like Epson may choose not continue support for really old devices. Only by visiting the Epson site will you know if your printer is supported.

I used migration assistant to move all of my apps and software from my old iMac to the new one running on Sanoma and inevitably, I could not print on my Epson SC P600 through the cabled print driver version 12.62

As a photographer, it is important to use the cable print driver as it gives more control in the print dialogue box over papers and print settings.

In 2020 I contacted Epson to say that compared side by side to my old Epson R2880, the Epson air print driver was putting too much ink on the page and they suggested using cabled print driver v12.62 which rectified the problem.

So it was important for me to get this driver running with my new Sanoma iMac.

Epson again were very helpful in directing me to the new update

This link includes software updater for the specific iMac Sonoma go to the link and update the software.

This didn’t initially solve the problem as I made the mistake in thinking that the Epson auto updata would install the new driver automatically

I contacted Apple support who were very helpful in getting me to update to the latest software but it was still not working.

I found after numerous attempts at deleting the old driver that when I went into ‘system settings’ – ‘Printers & scanners” – “add Printer, scanner or Fax”  that EPSON SC-P600 (IP) came up as an option.

I am not sure what the (IP) stands for, but it has sorted out the problem and I can print with the cabled driver and the important ‘print settings’ option dialogue box.

Thank you for the suggestion to use the IOS 13 driver as I was able to download the Epson driver even though I am running IOS 14.Epson website said it was compatible with my Epson printer and scanner. It asked me to allow downloading of Rosetta program which they said converts Intel based programs to IOS use. I clicked ok and the driver for IOS 13 worked to run my Epson scanner on my IOS 14 iMac. Before downloading the new driver my Image Capture could not detect my printer/scanner. As soon as I got the driver downloaded and installed thanks to Rosetta, the scanner box opened from Image Capture and showed my connected printer/scanner. So thank you for the suggestion! it worked!!

As long as your printer is working on the macOS 13 drivers, not really. I just wanted to point out Epson now has Sonoma drivers.

Heck, for all we know, they aren't much, if any different from the previous release. If you look under macOS 11 and up, they all use the same 12.62 release. That doesn't mean the installer doesn't detect the OS version and install different files depending on what it finds, but that the same release works across multiple versions is a fairly good hint the installer didn't change much.
