iPhone not needing unlocking

iOS 17.0.1

I don’t even know what happened, but the lock icon is gone. Whenever I turn it on, it’s always unlocked. I’ve tried not facing it at me, and it still is unlocked no matter what. Notifications show what’s on them, as if it was already unlocked. It still asks for Face ID on Hidden Albums in Photos. It still needs Face ID in credit card apps. How do I stop my phone being unlocked?

If your iPhone was configured with passcode and you needed to unlock in the past, it is very unlikely the lock function has been removed without human help. However, the Face ID unlock in iOS 17 seems very smooth and almost unnoticeable.

Try a quick test. Lock your iPhone by pressing the (right) Side Button then turn it so you can see the screen from the side and the FaceID camera is not looking to see you clearly. You could even put your finger over the screen notch to block its view. Now press the side button again or swipe up from the bottom of the screen and see if you get the Lock Screen or passcode entry display (locked), or your Home Screen with apps (unlocked).
