WatchOS 10 Sleep Mode not switching off

I have upgraded my watch to Series 9 (its lovely) and have OS10 software. Sleep mode is turning on as per the original schedule on my old watch but it does not switch off when the alarm is accepted, put on the charger and then on my wrist, it continues in sleep mode. I have to switch it off from the Control Centre.

I had this problem today on my Series 7 with WatchOS 10.5. What I found was that the sync between my watch and iPhone had gotten out of whack. I turned on and off Focus sync in the Apple Watch iPhone app (My Watch > General > Focus > Mirror my iPhone > Toggle off, Toggle back on). Then I put my phone into Sleep focus. Finally, I turned off Sleep focus on my phone. My Apple Watch matched my iPhone's focus mode from this point on.

I know this post is old but this just happened to my Series 3. Before you reset your watch, try this: Open your watch and swipe up. (I found my Do Not Disturb button not on) Tap on Do Not Disturb. Swipe up again and tap on Do Not Disturb again and your watch should be out of sleep mode. If it continues to be stuck continuously, I would reset it.
