Unread emails in Apple Mail

Why doesn't Apple Mail have an "Unread Emails" folder?

In practically every other email program, INCLUDING iOS, there is an "Unread Emails" folder.

I've read in past apple support community posts that one has to search for them which doesn't seem to work at all in Mail v16.0 on my MacBook Pro running Sonoma v14.0.

Without going into a twenty step process of how to find them, does anyone know if Apple is even considering such a move?

Heck, even Outlook has this function and Mail is a far superior email program.

Any ideas?

Thank you for responding. Armed with your information, I returned to my Apple Mail and found the little circle. It didn't have "filter" beneath it but when I clicked it, the list of emails turned into only unread emails.

If you Control click in the header area— a contextual menu allows you to label the icons...
