iOS 17 deleted all notes off ipad

Upgraded to iOS 17 this morning, and it automatically deleted 800 notes off my ipad, storing them on the Cloud. Tried to move them back and iOS would not all me to select ipad. (Option was in the list, but it would not select.) I do not want to store anything on the cloud. Why did Apple do this? How do I get them back?

Already tried:

  • Press the 3 dots at the top of the notes list,
  • Select the notes (will not allow me to select all, had to press on the select circle for each note)
  • Select Move at the bottom of the list screen
  • Box appears with iCloud and On My iPad sections. Only iCloud options can be selected.

Then tried:

  • selecting the note fromthe notes list
  • sliding to the left
  • pressing the folder icon
  • Box appears with iCloud and On My iPad sections. Only iCloud options can be selected

I need these notes on the ipad, since I am often in areas without internet service.

Can I revert to iOS 16?

All of your notes remain on your device if you sync with iCloud. Only changes are updated when syncing. So, you can continue to use your notes offline.

You can check to ensure that all of your accounts sync notes in settings > email

Then, in settings > notes you can change the default account and enable the on my iPad account

Open the notes app and create a new folder and place it into On May iPad

You should then be able to move your notes onto your device.
