I had the same problem but I did as the tech support suggested and now it’s fixed. My problem was that I was using iOS 15 and I needed to have a new updated iOS system i think iOS 16 or higher is required but now after upgrading in using iOS 18. I didn’t think the tech supports suggestion applied to me because I thought I had automatic updates but I checked any how and found that I hadn’t updated in quite a long time. Now I can make stickers and several other things that were a nuance are now fixed. Thank you Apple tech support.

Hi irregram,

Creating stickers from photos is a function of iOS 17 per Make stickers from your photos on iPhone. The process to do so is listed as:

"Turn a photo into a sticker

You can turn the main subject of a photo into a sticker.

  1. Open the Photos app  on your iPhone.
  2. Tap a photo to open it in full screen.
  3. Touch and hold the subject, then tap Add Sticker.
  4. The sticker appears in your sticker drawer, which you can access when you use the iPhone onscreen keyboard or Markup tools.
  5. Tap Add Effect to apply a visual effect such as Outline, Comic, or Puffy.
  6. Tap the close button to close the sticker menu."

Have you checked your sticker drawer for those that you've attempted to create? Are you running the latest version of iOS 17 for your device? If so and still not finding those, check Screen Time restrictions to ensure there are no features blocking this action and then contact Apple Support directly to investigate further.

Regards.

Easy way I’ve found is to open a text and when you tap the + icon it reads stickers you click on stickers then tap the + icon on that and it will access your photo album(s) and you just click on the photo you would like to create into a sticker doing it this way it highlights most images for you including Live Photos automatically as well as lets you know which images can’t be made into a sticker…

Here’s a workaround that worked for me:

  1. Long-press on the image to highlight the subject.
  2. Drag the highlighted subject slightly downward while continuing to hold it.
  3. With your other hand, switch to WhatsApp (or any other messaging app).
  4. Drop the image into a chat with the person you want to send it to.
  5. Once the image is sent, tap on it in the chat, and select "Add to Favorites" to save it as a sticker.

Let me know if this works for anyone else! 🙂

Found an easy fix. The option to create a sticker refused to appear like many of you, however what I did is I went into a photo editor, cut out what I wanted as the sticker, saved the new cut out version to my phone, went to messages, clicked the plus symbol in the corner, clicked stickers, then add stickers. Now, everything I wanted as a sticker is a sticker. Your welcome.

I have the same issue too, just tested it on my newly updated IOS 17.4 iPhone 15 Pro. I'm able to select a part of an photo I want to create a sticker from but when I select Add Sticker it appears in the sticker draw for a second then disappears. What is odd is that I am able to create stickers on my iPad Pro without issues. Stickers created on my iPad do not show up on my iPhone, the sticker draw there is always empty.

I opened a call with Apple in December who were initially very helpful, we tried several ways to fix the issue which included removing my VPN software and Microsoft Defender. The thought was that the issue was iCloud related and that these apps might be blocking the upload of the sticker. I also sent screen recordings that demonstrated the issue and uploaded many logs that Apple requested. I was told that they would get back to me but have heard nothing since late December 2023...

A response from Apple acknowledging this issue would be helpful.
