Charger overheated on wall plug in

I am using my spare Apple charger (white cubic charger) which is old type but brand new, to charge my new iPhone 15 Pro. It’s getting overheated on the wall plug in. I am using a USB to USB-C adapter. Why is it so?

iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 17

The "white cubic charger" can only produce up to 5W of power. This may be "stressing" it to provide enough power to fully charge your iPhone 15, especially if the phone's battery is nearly depleted.

You may want to consider getting the Apple 20W USB-C power adapter which would be a better match for your phone.
