Where can I find drivers for HP printers compatible with Sonoma?

My old HP printer quit connecting with the new Sonoma 14 update on my I-Mac. After finding the HP community site it appears double jeopardy: Sonoma 14 doesn't work for HP printers and HP doesn't have drivers above 13. (Actually, I could only find 11.)

As statements on the net aren't always true, just wondering is anyones HP printer working on Apple after upgrading to Sonoma 14? If so, where did you find your driver, please?

Mine is by USB connection.

thanks!

Verify if your HP printer is AirPrint compatible. If so, add the printer using the Bonjour connection instead of using the drivers. Printer device drivers have been a problem with every update as they are either not updated by the manufacturer to support the OS or the manufacturer quits supporting the printers all together. This is true of all manufacturers and occurs on both Mac and PC's. The solution is to only use a printer that is AirPrint compatible, which most are nowadays. This eliminates the need for any printer drivers from the manufacturer and will solve the problem of the device not working after an update. I have the HP OfficeJet 5740 and it continues to work with Sonoma and uses AirPrint with no drivers from HP.

The printer is an AirPrint printer, so you can use the HP Smart App to connect the printer to the same wifi as your Mac. Once that is done, add the printer on your Mac using the Bonjour/AirPrint option by going to  > System Settings > Printers & Scanners. There are no drivers needed to use an AirPrint printer.

You need to download HP Easy Start app first, run it once, and it will crash without reporting any error. The result is that the HP drivers are not installed.

Then you need to find the location of the ftp server from a log file in your library: ~/Library/Logs/HP Easy Start.log

For me, the URL is:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/macOS12/hp-printer-essentials-B-5_16_5_7.pkg

Once the package is downloaded, you can run the package, and you will be prompted to install Rosetta if it's not installed.

Actually, after Rosetta is installed, you can go back and run HP Easy Start without any error.

Hi Jim, are you sure you are young the AirPrint protocol for the driver? If I use the built-in AirPrint driver for my HP M102w LaserJet, I do not get the duplex nor double-sided option. I only get the duplex option if I use the HP supplied driver (which doesn't use AirPrint)

If you are using the AirPrint protocol, you will see it in System Settings > Printers&Scanners > click on the HP printer > it will show you what kind of driver / protocol it's using. If it's using the legacy Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) then the word "AirPrint" will not show here.
