Anyone all the sudden having facial recognition issues with iPhone xsmax

My iPhone XS Max facial recognition just failed

phone reads TrueDepth camera issue

i have the very latest update I believe is 17 as of yesterday

the front camera still has picture as well as the back camera

There are two parts to the TrueDepth camera, the camera and the infra-red transmitters. If your phone detected an issue with the infra-red lasers it will shut them off but the camera can still work.


If Face ID isn't working for you, there is most likely something wrong with your TrueDepth camera. First, look at these two articles for help. If that doesn't fix the issue, then make an appointment at the Genius Bar to have your camera issue diagnosed.
