Upgrade from Catalina to download iMovie

I need to download iMovie to transfer DV tapes but Catalina 10.15.7 does not allow me to do this. What upgrade do I need that will allow iMovie.

Mac mini, macOS 10.15

Hi,

The current version iMovie 10.3.10 requires Ventura or Sonoma. So if you can upgrade to either of those you can get the current iMovie.

If you are not able to upgrade to Ventura or Sonoma, then use the following procedure to obtain the highest version of iMovie that Catalina will run. This assumes that at one point you had an earlier version of iMovie 10 on your Mac, even if you deleted it or lost it for some reason.

To update/redownload iMovie 10, drag your iMovie 10 app from the Applications folder into the trash, but do not empty the trash. (You can skip that step if you had iMovie 10 on your computer before, but deleted it.) Sign in to the app store and open your purchases folder by clicking on your name at the bottom of the app store side bar. You will see your purchases displayed, including iMovie 10. Redownload/update iMovie from there. If not successful, drag your present iMovie app out of the trash (if you moved it there) and return it to the Applications folder.

If you don't see iMovie in your Account Purchases folder in the app store, then possibly it is a hidden app. Click on the View Information item in the top right of your Accounts folder:

That will reveal a window where you can unhide any hidden purchases:
