That's not unusual with a lot of car charging mats. If the coils in the charging mat aren't aligned perfectly with the MagSafe coil in the phone, it just won't charge. My iPhone 13 Pro Max, 14 Pro Max and now 15 Pro Max won't charge in my car either. It's not Apple's fault. It's where the charging coil is in your car. So, I just plug in to charge if I need to charge while I'm in my car.
