Erase all settings and content hanging

I am preparing to trade in my MacBook Pro 14”. I have tried erase all content from settings a couple times. The first time I had to enter Apple ID and find my is currently disabled but it did sign me out of iCloud and it just spun (see image). I was able to exit by reentering Apple ID and canceling on the warning pop up.

The second time I signed out of iCloud before starting. Now it is simply spinning. I can access the disk and I see no change in space for over an hour. I don’t see any way to cancel. I’m not sure if I should force shutdown and risk other issues. Please advise. TIA.

You can always force quit a shutdown by holding the power button/TouchID for ~6-10 sec.

Force Shut down your Mac.
