Voicemail disappeared after last 2 updates on my iPhone 14 Pro.

After the first 17 IOS update I would have to click on my voicemail a couple of times for it to show up. I just downloaded the new 17 and now I can’t get my voicemail at all. It’s empty. I know it’s not empty. I had messages in there prior. Plus iPhone 14 pro notified me that people left messages but I can’t find them, when I go to my messages, there is nothing in there. It sounds like this whole 17 iOS and voicemail is a mess. Also my voice texting is being very weird. I have to hit it like five times for it to work. I’m sure I’m missing something else. That’s weird about these updates.

I feel horrible for the people that are deaf and the mess these updates caused them! if anybody has any idea how I should fix this? Please let me know.

I was saving my father’s voicemails because he’s very sick and may not be with us for much longer. The new iOS deleted his voicemails. I’m heartbroken because he can’t leave me voicemails any longer. If anyone knows anything I can do, please let me know!

Same thing happened to me. I try to update my iOS as rarely as possible because every update just seems to make the phone work less well. I never considered that it would wipe my voice mail. Included with other important messages I had been saving was a message from my deceased uncle from right before he passed. I hadn't yet gotten up the strength to listen to it (he was a stroke victim), and I guess now I will never get to. I was so comforted by just knowing I always had that little piece of him with me and could hear his voice again. No more.

I tried turning live VM off and rebooting, but nothing came back.

My phone forced me to update because none of my apps were working anymore. Now all my voicemails are gone and some I saved from people who have passed away. Now I have no way to hear their voices again. This is freaking ridiculous. Why would you even think it’s ok to delete stuff off our phones?! Why was that not a bolded disclaimer when updating !?

Same here! I travel for my job frequently. All of a sudden (last week) I couldn't use certain travel/airline apps anymore unless I updated my apps. To update my apps I needed the most recent IOS update. I update my IOS and boom, all voicemail messages gone! All of my deceased mothers voicemail messages, all of my deceased fathers voicemail messages, all of my daughters voicemail messages when they were little and growing up throughout the years, important work voicemails, everything! Gone!! I called T-Mobile and they couldn't do anything and were zero help from their end. It's terrible. You pay a gazillion dollars for all of this "tech" and just like that, gone with zero accountability from these "advanced tech" companies you pay for all of this service for. The iCloud sync? I guess not with voicemails messages. To say it's heartbreaking to lose all of those heartfelt and important voicemails is an incredibly huge understatement.

Yeah it’s Thursday and nope no voicemails have come back yet. I’ve tried toggling off the live vm setting, restarting my phone and nothing. Still no fix. I HATE THIS UPDATE!! It’s why I don’t do updates anymore, bc apple always finds a new way to screw everything up. Makes me want to switch to Samsung. Also, why won’t safari tabs save to iCloud backups? Last time I reset to factory settings for an issue with an update, it didn’t save my safari tabs and I lost all the hours and hours of important research I was doing. I’ll never get those back. With each stupid update they find new ways to screw up our phones but they can’t fix a simple thing like safari tabs when chrome automatically saves all info? Cmon apple do better

Update a few hours later! After racking my brain, not being tech savvy, and scouring the web for days to recover my lost voicemails from updating my iPhone OS last week, I just said screw it and decided to do another OS update and see what happens. Kind of like a "turn your phone off/back on/reboot" thing. Sources online say it could be a glitch when updating your OS so I tried another OS update to see what happens (and hopefully not lose more stuff) and Voila!! Many voicemails came back!! Like over 170! I know it's not all of them but I'm very happy to get these. I made sure I was home, plugged in to power, and on my homes wi-fi. Also, many voicemail messages came back with "unknown" as the names so maybe they'll update themselves over time (hopefully) and more voicemail messages will come back BUT I'm super happy I got what I got. Maybe try another IOS update. Best of luck everyone.

I backed up my phone just prior to installing 17.4 update on 3/12/24. I have not backed it up since because I don't want a newer backup to supersede the backup that has all the voicemails when I install the 17.4.1.
Did you backup your phone again between the 2 updates? Thanks

If you back up to a Mac you can archive a backup, so the next backup will not overwrite the previous backup.

Please share with me a fix to recovering my saved Voicemails which was a feature I used for bus. And personal reasons. One of which, I lost my dad exactly a year ago and planned a trip to mourn listening to all his Voicemails and now I have nothing. In addition, I missed a very important interview🫣. I’ve truly have been robbed of having the opportunity to hear my dads voice again. Please Help Me🙏❤️❤️
