Magic keyboard wearing very poorly

I have had my magic keyboard for my iPad Pro for about 18 months and it works extremely well. However, it is finished in a sort of rubber and this has already started to peel away from the corners - and this despite very careful handling (truth to tell Im pretty obsessive about keeping my IT kit in good condition).

I wanted to add to the voices that are pointing out that if you buy one of these keyboards, you shouldn’t expect it to look cosmetically good for more than about a year, even with very careful handling. I expect that the keyboard will be functional for a considerable time yet, but for those of us who take pride in our kit (and given the cost I expect most Apple users do), this is very disappointing.

If anyone knows how to best renovate /repair this rubber surface do let me know here!

Hey skydoc10,

We're grateful that you posted here so we can help you figure this out.

When it comes to cleaning and maintaining your Apple products, you can follow the guidance in this article: How to clean your Apple products - Apple Support. That resource says the following about keyboards:

iPad Magic Keyboard

To clean your Magic Keyboard, first remove it from the iPad. Use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Wipe the front and the inside with a soft, lint-free cloth. You may use a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes. Avoid getting moisture in any opening, and don't submerge your Magic Keyboard in any cleaning agents. Don't use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, ammonia, abrasives, or cleaners containing hydrogen peroxide to clean this product.

If you'd like, you can also reach out to the nearest Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider who would be happy to take a closer look at the device and share some additional guidance. You can find the nearest service location here: Find Locations
