iCloud sync very slow on PC

The sync takes forever.

SO is Windows 10 (with all the updates).

My Internet connection is 1G/210M (tested!).

My iCloud free space is more then 1T.

Apple services are all green.

I also have an OneDrive and a Dropbox that always work perfectly and fast.

What's happening with iCloud service?

Windows, Windows 10

Hello JLPires,

It sounds like you've already checked a lot of things to try to resolve this issue. Thanks for including those results. There are a few options provided by Apple that may help to resolve this problem. We can provide this information here.

If you seem to have issues with syncing iCloud Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders, you can look over and follow the steps on this page: If your iCloud Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders won’t sync - Apple Support.

If the issue seems to relate to iCloud Photos, follow the steps listed here: If your iCloud Photos aren't syncing to your device - Apple Support. This page provides details for what to do if your photos or videos won't sync to iCloud Photos on your device.

You also mentioned that you're using Windows. This page is a great resource for help with what to do if you get a notification on your PC that says some of your files in iCloud Drive won't be synced: If files in Windows won't sync to iCloud Drive because the path is too long - Apple Support. Another thing to consider is that some of your Windows security software might be the cause of this problem. If so, this page can help with finding a solution: Resolve issues between iCloud for Windows or iTunes and third-party security software - Apple Support.

We hope this information helps you out.

Kind regards!

I had to reinstall iCloud for Windows few days ago and was facing the same issue -> extremely slow Sync (Download) of iCloud Content.

Summary:

  • Windows 11 (fully up-to-date)
  • iCloud for Windows 15.0.215
  • 200GB iCloud Storage (~50% used)
  • ~5.000 photos in iCloud
  • enough local Diskspace & System ist mostly idle
  • 50 MBit/s Download Speed
  • all other Apps are working fine und use full Download-Speed

Login within iCloud Sync App was possible and I've turned on the Photo Download/Sync. CPU goes up to ~10% and it tooks several hours for few photos.

Re-logon within App nor re-installing it solves the issue for me. I've also tried some other hints (Apple Community, Youtube etc.) -> nothing worked and sync was still horrible slowly.

Then I made a really strange observation -> I've started a small (Robocopy-)Script to backup my iCloud-Photos-Folder to a Backup-Disk. I thought this will only take few seconds BECAUSE there are only few fully downloaded pictures and the rest are thumbnails... BUT the script took much longer and triggered obviously an highspeed-download of all remaining photos!

So in short -> iCloud Sync itself is still ultra slow -> but when you copy all photos/thumbnails from the local iCloud-Photos-Folder to another location, this will fasten up the Sync/Download. I've tried this also on another PC with the same result and this is my solution now for the "slow-icloud-sync-issue".

Hope this can help anyone out there! All the best!

Thank you for the answer, but unfortunately my problem isn’t none of these.

I have some folders locally on my PC, inside C:\Users\Jorge\iCloudDrive. They should sync automatically (and they did), but a few weeks ago they stop synchronizing. The files's status is “Sync pending”.

If I click the iCloud icon (on the status bar) I can see “Sending xxx elements”, but that xxx number never changes, so it appears that sync has stopped. I can’t find any “force sync”, or “stop sync/pause sync” option anywhere, as OneDrive and  Dropbox have.

If I create a new file, the xxx increments by one. If I delete that same file, the xxx doesn’t decrement.

I've already left the PC connectd a hole day, just to see if it finishes synching (or xxx decrements).

It does appear that the sync process is stuck in some file.

I have already rebooted the PC, tried another network connection (wired and wireless).
