Does water cause ghost inputs?

I have been using an iPhone X that my mom gave me. It broke for about a year or two where the screen was just black and would never show anything, but it was able to open that's for sure. We managed to get it working again, and everything was fine until I walked home from school on a rainy day. Some water got on the screen, I wiped it off, but then it just made about 1/3 of the screen unable to work. After that, there have been ghost inputs randomly pressing on my screen and lasting about 2-3 days, and usually, it happens when my phone gets near a small body of water. Is there anything I can do to fix it?
