Format this Drive Accordingly:
So, If you are installing the macOS anew, then you good to
You can try to use the instructions in this article to attempt to update the laptop's system firmware, but pay close attention to the requirement that the current system firmware must be at least 195.x.x.x.x (since the article is a couple years old, it is possible a later version of the Monterey installer changed this requirement). See the section beginning with "For those without access to an Apple SSD":
https://tinyapps.org/blog/202110270700_monterey-third-party-ssd.html
Those instructions just have you remove the firmware file from the macOS Monterey installer and telling the laptop to boot to that firmware which will have it installed bypassing the installer's restriction preventing the update with a third party SSD. You do assume the risk if something goes wrong. A firmware update which does not finish successfully can result in a bricked computer.
I've never used these instructions, but I have reviewed them and have seen several success stories from others online.
Once the system firmware has been updated, then the macOS Monterey installer should now work even with the third party SSD installed internally.
You've replaced the oem hdd or ssd and it will be required to allow the OS to initiate the update.
If you still have it, you might try using it in an external drive enclosure, but I'm pretty sure it needs to be internally mounted again.
I hope you got an SSD that is actually made for that specific laptop. While the SSD connector is the same in the 2015 model as it is for the Late-2013 & 2014 models (including MBAirs & 2017 Air), and some iMacs and Mac Minis.... the SSDs will physically fit, but macOS may not like it since it knows the SSD does not belong with that particular Mac. Worst case, macOS won't boot at all, nor will the macOS installer (personal experience). The SSD will work perfectly fine when using a non-Apple OS (personal experience).
If it works....great. If you have issues, then it likely means the SSD is not compatible with the 2015 laptop (or the SSD is bad).
Thanks for the replay
I need to buy a new genuine SSD drive as I do no longer have the original.
I ordered a genuan SSD drive
I am convinced my non genuan SSD is the problem.
