several issues after update to Sonoma 14.0

Ever since I updated my macbook air (chip Apple M2) to Sonoma 14.0 my laptop has issues and isn't working properly. My work flow has been slowed down and the system has ridiculous bugs:

  • preview per space key not working - when space key is pressed the file actually opens. cannot be fixed by relaunching the Finder.
  • an odd blue frame appears when moving cursor/mouse
  • when changing from, say, Windows to Chrome and back again the cursor jumps either right to the end of page or top of page in either applications???!!!
  • i have reinstalled and rebooted incl. deinstalling and reinstalling applications such as chrome, endnote, outlook etc.
  • i have shut down and launched in safe mode - problem occurs in either mode

With every update OS gets worse and worse. I was increadibly happy when I bought the airbook only a few months ago...now i am frustrated on a daily basis! bloody nuisance!!!

Hi Bobcags, I just wanted to submit a good read here about the slowness of EVERYTHING! I just involuntarily updated my 2020 iMac to Sonoma 14.3 and from what the article says, I need to give my iMac tine for the new OS to index. That takes anywhere from a few hours to a few days. Whatever...Apple...I'll wait but I won't like it.

NEVER upgrade to x.0 of anything. I made this mistake 7.0 came out. By 7.2 Apple had worked out most of the bugs.

I also used to do a Clean Install of OS and All software and used SuperDuper to make a bootable external drive because the only time your computer seems to fail is when you REALLY have to Have that thing Printed!!!

I could always boot from that drive and open the file and go.

We replaced Illustrator with Inkscape (open source so free and very robust)

Photoshop with GIMP (same as above)

Final Cut with Blender (open source) which not only does video editing but also modeling, animation, and something else that my tired brain cannot remember now.

Note: when you export a .svg to a high DPI .png file I end up often with a file that is 100mb and if I open in Preview it takes the 100mb and turns it into 1.4mb.

I have gotten to my limit of frustration with this OS. I rolled back to Monterey as Ventura had bugs all the way up to this tossed salad of a mess being released.

Bluetooth drops, failed to connect on startup. icons (Hard Drives, Externals) going missing on desktop and can not get them back to just overall running slow, my 2020iMac feels like a 2007 Mac on a spinning disk. Monterey runs like a champ.

Apple, please get this resolved, this OS release is horrible!

Yes, everything gets worse. The main reason I update is because of the possible security/malware problem, in fact it is the only reason I update my iPhone, iMac and iPad. Yes I’m all Apple. Trouble is with each update I get a lot of, in my opinion, totally pointless “improvements”. Why does Apple tie security in with the system updates? I lost a lot of work when they updated Logic a few years ago, anmongst other problems. I thought buying an M1 iMac would be great, but the list of troubles is endless, including spinning beachballs! I thought they were a thing of the past. And while I’m moaning if one more support person say “check you are up to date, on the same wifi etc etc”. So seemingly no way out, as Apple takes no notice. Aah sorry to much moaning!

Sonoma update completely screwed up my iMac! 2 days with support and iMac went from bad to lost a drive and had to restart the iMac from scratch and still not a functional computer!!! Ask me how upset I am? .... I had to go and buy a brand new iMac!!! How's that for an update gone completely wrong... and again, Apple just don't care...you can't even complain to a live person or a direct email dedicated to complaints! All I hear from support is - I'm sorry you have to go through that! Sorry...3 days with Apple and short $3000.00 that's how sorry I feel.. A big joke.. All apple wants is your money and they just don't care. Last Mac product I am buying...Feed up with this nonsense.

Also, My 3 year and 3 month iMac that is no longer usable thanks to Apple update, always had a problem. I could never use Microsoft numbers or any app in Microsoft, Canva or could never open a PDF document without slowing the iMac completely down until it froze and had to force quit.

I called apple support a few times and the answer: well it's not an apple site or app....Funny how my latest MacBook Air is fine with it but never my iMac....Apple will never admit that they are wrong or that their product is defective.Extremely upset customer!!!

My last senior advisor told me that he would file the issue internally and that I should hear back from Apple within 72 hours...It's been 5 days and still waiting for a resolution from Apple.

This new OS is massive disaster , I never had so bad OS since using apple ( 2006 ) . If you reset the pc will most likely log you out of Apple ID and will cause you many more issues which includes Time and Date issues ( always wrong one ) and massive loading issues . Airdrop will not work as well.

Apple don't know what to do as they have set answers from system and they are all the same - reset /reboot / check settings etc . and the settings are all ok as we do not use apple from yesterday ! it is clearly bad OS which was not made good and rushed to be released !

Super disappointing :(
