several issues after update to Sonoma 14.0

Ever since I updated my macbook air (chip Apple M2) to Sonoma 14.0 my laptop has issues and isn't working properly. My work flow has been slowed down and the system has ridiculous bugs:

  • preview per space key not working - when space key is pressed the file actually opens. cannot be fixed by relaunching the Finder.
  • an odd blue frame appears when moving cursor/mouse
  • when changing from, say, Windows to Chrome and back again the cursor jumps either right to the end of page or top of page in either applications???!!!
  • i have reinstalled and rebooted incl. deinstalling and reinstalling applications such as chrome, endnote, outlook etc.
  • i have shut down and launched in safe mode - problem occurs in either mode

With every update OS gets worse and worse. I was increadibly happy when I bought the airbook only a few months ago...now i am frustrated on a daily basis! bloody nuisance!!!

I have a new iMac on which updates for OS 13 worked in all phases. I upgraded to Sonoma, and now have OS 14.3, which is DEFECTIVE to the degree that it would behoove Apple to FIRE whoever it HIRED for new software development. The current worst I just discovered is that OS 14.3 axed compatibility with my Brother printer. It eliminated two-sided printing; that is, File/Print/Pages now hasn't the double-sided feature. IT IS TAX SEASON. My CALIFORNIA TAX RETURN totals FIFTEEN PAGES! OS 14.3 has other INCONVENIENT DEPRECIATIONS that bespeak oversaturated, cross-code compromises from an unqualified developer seeking congratulations. As an inception user of Apple, since 1992, I am stymied that there is this degree of negligence in software to hardware compatibility.

Upon downloading this update, my 2021 iMac which I got less than 6 months ago has been stuck on the lock screen asking for a name and password. I type in my name and the password I have been using since I got the mac, but I am locked out. We tried changing the password, but that did not let me in. I tried my apple ID but that did not work either. The screen has no menu bar, the only other options are shut down, restart, sleep. Very unhappy with this update. My computer has been completely unusable.

after i updated my iMac 24-inch M1Chip, my main account on the computer disappeared and i can’t access any of the files from that account. i lost most of the backgrounds that were put on the computer. all of my company and business files are gone. i can still use the user name and password when asked for admin access, but i can’t find the account to login. the account cant not be accessed or seen in settings under user/groups

The sonoma update 14.4.1 has created a bug on my MBP where I can't get out of a self selecting field when I press the space bar on my keyboard. It will not let me type correctly and there is no way out to fix this. The sound bar through the keyboard is also buggy and it won't increase or decrease volumn on video players.

It is frustrating and very disappointing for Apple to be making users deal with these issues.

I have been an Apple user for more than 25 years. After experiencing issues with the recent Sonoma Update, I began considering purchasing a new machine. Unfortunately, the options available in South Africa are limited to basic entry-level machines with minimal storage capacity. Unless you are willing to spend 220K on a Mac Pro, there are not many suitable choices. As a result, I have decided to switch to a high-end PC.

Dissapointing.

WHAT is that random blue box that appears around text? This can happen on sites like Goodreads. Randomly, the blue box pops up, then when I type a word, the space bar doesn't work. Example: Idon'tenjoythis. If I hold down the shift and spacebar, I can make myself understood. Usually, for some unexplainable reason the blue box disappears and I can type normally, but just as randomly it might reappear.

I can live with it, but it's annoying.

Well this is slightly disappointing.

Just bought the new mac air m3.

And jesus it is a lot of bugs with this new Sonoma.

I was running Mojave and Catalina or still do actually on my 2 other computers and they run way smother than my brand new mac. Kinda blows.

The files are flickering when i want to move them to another folder and in genereal i dont feel the break neck speed difference that it should be from an intel to a M chip model.

Really sad that this new system isnt all that good and now im stuck with it.

Strange sounds i dont like the sounds at all in sonoma, the wallpaper changes on its own and so does the desktop so ive had so far changed the wallpapers like 5-8 times and it keeps jumping back to sonomas screen & wallpaper, its just in general a system that feels like a windows with a lot of strange things and bugs happening.

In itunes i had to go over all my playlists that i transferred because about 20% of all songs did not transfer even though i transferred all music from a hard drive, that took me like 8 hours to double check everything.

Not at all what i expected that apple would release a system with this amount of bugs.

This is probably not all i havent had the computer more than 2 days.

Hope they fix all this under par performance, sure feels like they just want to release new systems and not really make sure it is as bulletproof that mac use to be. I chose mac because i dont want to feel like i am using a windows but Sonoma really feels like windows and all this fluff i feel like a child using this system.

Agree with all that Sonoma is very poor. Trouble is Apple seems not care, so really no way forward they keep giving us useless updates etc etc. yesterday June 2024 Logic Pro lost its connection to my keyboard - again - and after the last update - oh why did I do it- all my favourites were deleted from Safari. As the the “ spinning beach ball” I see it more now than in the last thirty years, and yes that’s how long I’ve been with Apple. The slogan “It just works” is beyond a joke,

I have been scrolling to see if anyone else can’t access wifi? Took hours to do the update, froze halfway through, then a hard boot got it going again. Finally started up and….NO WIFI. Not even when it was plugged in with a cable. I have put off the update for months but my 2019 MacBook Pro has been buggy lately with Ventura so I thought….okay….maybe it’s time. BOY DO I REGRET THAT DECISION!! I have been a Mac user since 2012 and I have never had any issues. Until now. And I can’t afford a repair, and by the sounds of things, Apple doesn’t seem to care. Now what??.

I also have the Mac Mini, Apple M1 chip, running Sonoma 14.5. I'm ready to toss the computer. It was a brilliant machine before Sonoma. I have lost my space bar, I have to hold the option key and space bar to get a space. It freezes all the time. Apple recommended opening it in safe mode, but from what I have read here it won't make a difference. I really can't use the tab key, that causes all sorts of problems, I have to remember to use the return key. I've tried 4 different apple keyboards with no joy. I hope they get this resolved soon.
