iOS 17.0.3 Battery Drain & Overheating

I have had the iPhone 15 pro since launch day, and I haven’t experienced any overheating issues at all. Battery life has been fantastic also. Until updating to 17.0.3 a few days ago. Since then the battery life is terrible and the phone is constantly hot, even in airplane mode. I can’t use the phone for more than a few minutes without it getting too hot to use. Instead of fixing the issue, this update seems to have caused the issue it was supposed to fix? Is anybody else having this issue, and what do you recommend?

Same problem here with a 15 Pro running 17.0.3

Over night it loses 10-20% battery without any background updates. First I thought it was Siri, but I turned her off and the problem remains.

During the day you can literally watch the battery drain. Sometimes the phone gets still uncomfortably warm when e.g TikTok is open for 5-10 minutes. Another reason for battery drain seems to be music for me. When I listen 1-2 hours on Spotify or Apple Music during work with the display turned off it loses 10 percent per hour. At least. I tried to turn off the apple

watch as some people said this might cause drainage over night but it isn’t the problem in my case apparently.

compared to the 14 pro I had before the battery life is m u c h worse. I have to charge it twice on a regularly day and a third time when i know I need it on a night out.

I have also problems with the WiFi connection, sometimes it seems to lose the connection while having full signal.

this all said having another 15 pro here. Battery life isn’t any good either and it needs to be charged twice a day as well. However, it’s not getting hot doing the same things and it does not lose this much battery over night. No WiFi issues either. Both models are from china.

This is the worst experience with an iPhone so far and I decided to return it as apple is not reacting with a statement or anything and the return windows closes for me. I have tried everything from restarts, doing a fresh setup etc. but I won’t for sure not change my habits and turn off services or my watch to hardly get through the day.

Hi Xhiea,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We would recommend the guidance in the article below that can help:

If your iPhone or iPad gets too hot or too cold

As noted:

You might notice that your device feels warmer when you:
•Set up your device the first time
•Restore from a backup
•Wirelessly charge your device
•Use graphics-intensive or processor-intensive apps, games, or features, including augmented-reality apps
•Stream high-quality video
These conditions are normal, and your device will return to a regular temperature when the process is complete or when you finish your activity. If your device doesn't display a temperature warning, you can keep using your device.

Hope this helps!

Have a great day.

Yea my phone has gotten MUCH hotter, and the battery drains ridiculously fast since the new update. Ive tried restarting my phone, changing some of the location settings, closed all the background apps. My phone was fine until I downloaded 17.0.3. I hope a fix is released soon because it gets uncomfortably hot now and i dont want to lessen my battery’s lifespan from all this heat.

Same here. Both 17.0.2 and 17.0.3 on my iPhone 13 Pro are over heating, and discharging very quickly. Even experimenting with using and not using certain apps doesn’t seem to have an affect either. I can literally watch the battery percentage go down before my eyes.

turning off background app refresh initially made it slightly better but went back to heating and battery draining wildly too.

it Has never been like this until the last 2 releases.

iOS 17.0.3 is garbage. My battery on 14 PM used to last 2+ days. Last night my battery drained from 92% to 70%. Completely unacceptable. I never had battery drain issue on Motorola and Samsung phones. Apple needs to fix this quickly. My experience with Apple has been underwhelming. My S23+ has insane battery life, never experienced draining or bugs.

I'm experiencing fast battery draining issues with my iPhone 15 PM, running on iOS 17.0.3 and have my iWatch SE connected, running on watchOS 10.1. I upgraded on release date from iPhone 12 PM which I had from new, and the battery health was running at 85% at trade-in and lasted longer that the new phone does.

Phone is charged overnight, by this time the battery is on around 25-30%, then by midday its on 70% (ish). I am not on the phone constantly, I've turned off the usually things that would cause it to drain fast and still no change. :(

My battery is dying in 18hrs or less. Battery was great prior to this update, averaging 1.5 days between charge.

Doing nothing but two short calls, no browsing or social media or photos or anything else within these last 18 hrs (it was Sunday and was not on phone)

Battery in settings states that the "Find My" background activity is $100 of the steep decline for %90 of the last 18hrs.

Not hot though.

12 hours or less if the phone is used lightly.

iPhone 13 Pro

iOS 17.0.3

88% (i think it went down since this update)

This is unacceptable.

iOS 17 shows up on my phone asking to update. I am still on iOS 14 which is working very well for me. I also have an iPad with a series 10 chipset on iOS 14 and have no issues there either. Battery drains on iPad because of age related issues but it is not bad. Apple support is a lifeline because I always come here first to see what other people are experiencing before pushing the 'update' button. I see more complaints about the same issues since iOS 14 but no fixes. I am beginning to wonder whether Apple read these pages to see what consumers are going through.
