Wifi not working after macOS Sonoma Update

My wifi does not work on my mac after updating to macOS sonoma. The connection is outstanding on my iPhone and iPad, and the link rate on my mac is +700mbps. However, the mac runs utterly slow. It will take 30 seconds to open a document on preview and the wifi tests on ookla won't even run.

What fixed mine was updating my date and time (such an odd thing I know). But give it a try.

I reinstalled Sonoma, on off Wi-Fi, on off Bluetooth, different Wi-Fi’s, no VPNs, etc.

None of that fixed it, only updating my date and time lol.

I found this through opening Google Chrome and it telling me that’s why I couldn’t access internet. Big W for Chrome.

I recently had the same problems with my iMac 2020 running Sonoma 14.5. It would not connect to the Internet. After trying all the things recommended and none worked I deleted Nord VPN, Norton Security and Clean My Mac which some contributors suggested. I switched to Surf Shark because Nord VPN was creating throttling problems and the problem with WiFi and Internet connection went away after I restarted.

Poisoning Internet performance:

By far the easiest way to cause poor performance, instability, overheating and crashing is to install ANY third-party speeder-uppers, Cleaners, Optimizers, or Virus scanners. or a VPN that you installed yourself.

The idea that a third party, with no special knowledge of the inner workings of MacOS, can somehow find a simple way to protect your computer — that is not already being done by MacOS itself — suggests that the MacOS developers are somehow "holding out on you". That is absurd.

You should remove any and all (other than Apple built-in) virus scanners, speeder uppers, optimizers, cleaners, App deleters or VPN packages you installed yourself, or anything of that ilk.

Third-party file Sync-ers such as DropBox, BackBlaze, OneDrive, or GoogleDrive can ruin performance, but are not inherently dangerous.

that's odd.

Download and run this little 'discovery' utility, Etrecheck, that looks at your Mac from the inside. it creates a report that is already laundered of any personally-identifiable elements, so can be posted back to the forums for readers to help you with:

http://etrecheck.com

instructions are inside the App. if you need more help getting the report posted, just ask.

this App was written by a senior contributor on the forums, and has been downloaded and run thousands of times. Such reports are very common here. It is not invasive, it installs NOTHING (unless you close to Install the App) can be run from the downloads folder, can be deleted immediately when you are done.

In my mind, you've done well cleaning out the anti-virus and CleanMyMac off your system.

It's probably more just my personal preference, but your available HD space is lower than I'd be comfortable with. Just saying.

If all else fails, you can restore your Mac's OS by following the steps in this Apple Support article: How to reinstall macOS - Apple Support

(BTW...kudos for using 1Password! You'd be amazed how often we get posts here with users forgetting their Mac login password or AppleID password and bemoan the fact they're locked out of their computer.)

This is a pretty simple problem. The network stack is unstable since the update. Apps like speed test (and others) simply don't work properly any more.

When I connect to WiFi (and I've tried 2 different ones) is an getting about 50% packet loss on a simple ping of the wifi gateway address. 2 iPhones, an iPad and a wintel laptop are all working fine.

The network stack is broken and wifi is intermittent on its best day. (and no, DHCP renewal does not fix it, more does forgetting and recommending to the network.)

A fix would be nice.
