Hi janetfromadelaide,
Thanks for providing those details. Our recommendation is to ensure that your iPad mini is updated to the latest version of iPadOS 17.0.3. If it is updated, then we suggest for you to restart your iPad mini as it can help resolve unexpected behavior. Here's how: Restart your iPad - Apple Support
Once that's done, please test and see if the timer functions properly as expected.
Best regards.
Hi janetfromadelaide,
When it comes to Excel not working as expected, you can follow the steps in If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open If you get down to Get More Help, along with contacting the developer How to contact an app developer you can also see if this information from the developer helps Excel for iPad Help.
When it comes to your timer being 3 minutes, are you trying to customize Sleep Focus as seen here Customize your Sleep Focus on iPad? Provide further details on what you are experiencing for better help.
Take care.
Hey janetfromadelaide,
Thanks for verifying that info. At this point it's recommended that you connect directly with Apple for additional support regarding this matter. You can use this link to do so: Get Support
Have a great day.
Thx for your prompt reply. Re your feedback by each point:
1: have spent a great deal of discussing with the developer. Excel fully checked out ok. It appears that it is from the iOS 17 upgrade. Everything was good on all of my devices ie: iPad mini 6, iPad (6th generation) and my iPhone 10s until upgrade from 16 to 17. Excel is very laggy when scrolling up/down.
2: No, I am referring to the Clock app. I set timer for 2 mins when I am cooking. The screen goes into sleep mode after about a minute. When I wake iPhone up to check time progress it defaults to 3 mins or something other than 2 mins.
Prior to upgrade from 16 to 17 there was also a countdown clock and cancel and pause buttons. They are no longer visible.
i believe it’s a 16 to 17 upgrade glitch.
Be good if Software engineer has look and fixes these problems.

Hi
Once again, thx for prompt response.
All of my iPads and iPhones are up to iOS 17.0.3. I have restarted all of these devices and the problems still occur.
Apple software engineer should check programming code.
