Hey there Sara K.,

Your AirPods and case share a serial number. You can find the case serial number on the underside of the lid. Then, if you or your husband have iOS 13 or later, you can find your AirPods serial number that is currently paired from Settings > Bluetooth > AirPods (tap the information button next to the AirPods). From there tap the serial number to cycle between the case serial number and each AirPod serial number. You can then compare the serial number to what you see in Settings, to the serial number printed on the AirPod itself.

For more details check out: Find the serial number of your AirPods.

The second footnote has this info: "2. With AirPods (2nd and 3rd generation) and AirPods Pro (1st and 2nd generation), each AirPod also has its own serial number, printed on the AirPod itself."

You can also play a sound on one set of AirPods as shown in this link here: Find your lost AirPods with Find My - Apple Support

Let us know if that's able to help.

Take care.
