iPad Pro 12.9 2023 battery drains quickly since iOS 17 update

Ever since the iOS 17 update my iPad Pro 12.9 (2TB 2023 model) battery life only last about an hour and a half. Before it was lasting about 6-9 hours. My daughter has the 11 inch 1TB model and is having the same issue. Can this be fixed?

Hello MrsCampbell1,

We would like to see how we can help you with your iPad battery draining quickly. Which iPadOS 17 version are you currently running? Go to Settings > General > About for the version. If you are not already, please update to iPadOS 17.0.3 and test the issue for 48 hours. Follow the steps in this link to update: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

"Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly

  1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
  5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do."

Cheers!

I am in a similar situation. Just after or perhaps during the ios17 update my battery couldn’t seem to charge up past around 3%. Running a diagnostic through a chat support was inconclusive, so I made an appointment and of course we are able to get it up past 3% with a new cord and brick (even though I had been using a new Anker cord and brick) and end up buying a new cable and brick.

10 days after an update is supposedly a significant mark where whatever was up with my battery may have gotten worked out. I was told if it keeps failing on me, then come back after Xmas.

So the day after Xmas after having no problems at all with the new charging cable and block, it will only give me the “plug Mr in to charge” icon despite being plugged in - and I have tried every cable, outlet, and block in the house.

From 100% to 80 it’s fine, it’s a few good hours.

from 80 to 40 it’s 3 hour of screen on time

its worse from 30 downwards, I have the feeling that from 30 to under 20% battery is gone in like 10-15 minutes…

using it in the same way, I was able to get with some battery, on my old Galaxy tab, on the second day.

i have to recharge the iPad Pro every single night…

Just got an iPad Pro 12.9" with a new pencil yesterday. I have hardly done much with it all - just messed around with a few new features. I also can't believe how quick the battery drains. I wondered if it was the pencil, so I will leave it detached but i'm not 100% sure that's the entire problem. Seems to be a battery or software issue. My other iPad (9th gen 10.2) is a few years old and has had heavy use and keep a really good charge - usually get a few days use out of it. If this is what my brand new iPad Pro is like out of the box on Day One, what's it going to be like in 2 years?

Is this a forum for mugs like us just to have a whine, or does anyone from Apple actually give a sht about this and reply? I'm going into an Apple store when I get a chance

What’s Sonoma? I woke up with fully charged battery open my iPad for like 5 min went down to 56%. Brand new IPad Pro 12.9 new update scared to update bc of even more battery loss. Has Apple even acknowledged the issue. I have basically no background light, low battery clicked on everything turned off background apps. Does anyone know if Apple is coming out with a new IPad. Maybe should go to IPad Air, have a Mac Air laptop works great?

this is ridiculous…

This is sooooo disappointing! Just purchased the new iPad Pro 12.9. The battery drains so ridiculously fast!!! I need to use it for business and wanted to replace my Mac with this. But the battery dies so fast and all I am doing with it right now is music! Just listening to music! If it drains this fast with music I will NOT be able to use it for work! Please fix this!!

I have the same problem. iPad Pro 12.9 M1 16gig of Ram, 1TB guard drive.. Battery drains ridiculously fast. I have all updates of iPad OS and my apps. The problem has been going on for several months. Before that I had normal battery life.I recently called Apple support for a different problem, and support ran diagnostic tests on my iPad and said everything checked out fine (on hardware). Very very frustrating.

Ok is there something else we can do about this problem as a total? Because we bought something expensive and it doesnt reflect on our expectations. The worst part is that nobody from apple care about this. And its something that is been a problem since a year and more i think! Nothing until now fixed this issue! I have an ipad Pro m2 and its brand new and i cannot use my ipad for longer than 4 hours

This is it Apple. The word on the street is that Apple sells shoddy products and the company doesn’t care what the consumers have to do to struggle to get their brand new products to work? I am quite sure that Apple knows that is not a sustainable practice. Why have I had to do all of the troubleshooting while Apple has not even addressed the problem publicly? Apple we are tired of your arrogant attitude. Do better for a customer since 1984.

Apple support is not here and will probably never read your comments. Apple Support Community is a public discussion forum for fellow Apple users to connect and assist each other. If you have not called Apple Support or taken your product into an Apple Store and started a repair ticket, Apple is not aware of your concerns.

In regard to addressing your perceived issue, Apple does not comment here. But common sense dictates that this post is only three pages long and many of the same people have posted 3 or more times. This hardly seems like a battery issue epidemic. Just my thoughts as a long time Apple user and longtime community member (24 years).

I got my iPad 12.9 in 2022 and it immediately started having battery issues. I would be in class and would watch how much faster my iPad battery drained compared to my friend’s older version sitting next to me. I literally started keeping a log because it seemed too crazy. For every 1% of her battery, mine would drain at least 10%. I tried everything Apple suggested (screen brightness, background app refresh, updates, etc.) nothing helped. I even took it back into the store within the first week after buying it so they could check the battery, settings, etc., and they said everything looked normal but since the issue was so bad and it was still within a week they completely replaced it for me anyways just in case. SAME EXACT THING happened again. I still have the iPad and can’t use it like I need to because of this continued issue and it’s still wild to me that Apple is just like hmm that’s weird! This purchase was an investment for my education and it can’t go 3 hours of minimal use without dying. Disappointed doesn’t even begin to cover it.
