When selecting printer name, before I can print, the printer name disappears immediately and goes back to No Printer Selected. Why isn’t my printer selection sticking?

Selected printer name does not stay after selection. Printer name (Canon MF240) disappears immediately from No Printer Selected space, not allowing any printing. 8 years plus no problem, now cannot print from Ipad 3 nor IPhone 13. All devices turned off and on again; Wi-Fi restarted to no avail. What can I do to get printing again?

Hi Dako2024,

Just to confirm, does that happen when you try to select any printer, or just that specific one? Do you ever receive an error message when trying to select the printer? If so, what does the error say?

The above details will help us plan how to proceed.

Please also check out the information outlined in the following link to ensure the correct process is being used to print from iPad, so we can make sure there's no issue there: Print from iPad

Print from iPad

Use AirPrint to print wirelessly to an AirPrint-enabled printer from apps such as Mail, Photos, Safari, and Freeform. Many apps available on the App Store also support AirPrint.
iPad and the printer must be on the same Wi-Fi network. See the Apple Support article About AirPrint.

Print a document

Tap the Share buttonthe More buttonthe Reply button, or the Actions Menu button (depending on the app you’re using), then tap Print. (Swipe up if you don’t see Print.)

See the status of a print job

Open the App Switcher, then tap Print Center.
The badge on the icon shows how many documents are in the queue.
To cancel a print job, select it in Print Center, then tap Cancel Printing.

Thanks!

It's all useless! However, I have found out that the Cannon PRINT app with connect to the printer, and print.

This is an old thread. The firmware check has been mentioned above, but here are more details...

First, can you confirm that printer model? I see an imageCLASS MF240 series (MF244dw, MF241d, MF249dw, MF247dw, MF244dw, maybe some others), and see an imageCLASS MF3240 model, but can find no MF240 model.

If it's one of the various imageCLASS MF240 series models and has a System Management Settings available in its menu, use that to check the firmware version, and to update the printer to the latest firmware.

Or there seem to be some direct downloads for the printer firmware, as well:

https://sg.canon/en/support/imageCLASS%20MF241d/model

Looks like the most recent firmware for the various imageCLASS MF240 series is from 16-Dec-2021, but maybe there's newer? Canon's site is less than clear about this.

If this is an MF3240 or something else entirely, check the firmware of that.

When selecting printer name, before I can print, the printer name disappears immediately and goes back to No Printer Selected. Why isn’t my printer selection sticking?
