Let’s define “overheating”. If an iPhone overheats it shuts down so it can’t be used, and displays a message saying it must cool down before it can be turned on, and it will probably be unusable for an hour or so. If you are seeing this it is a hardware problem and you should contact Apple support:

Note that both of the above have options to receive a callback or chat

If you are not seeing this your phone has not overheated. However, if you fast charge your phone may pause charging at 80% and display a message saying that charging has paused, and will resume when the phone cools down. This is NOT overheating, and is normal when fast charging.

Also, some apps that use a lot of energy or that use cellular data rather than Wi-Fi can cause the phone to run warmer.

I’m going to repeat a post I made in this thread, that you apparently didn’t read:

Update on my 14 Pro.

Needed to have the logic board replaced, under warranty. Technician stated that the camera board burnt the logic board. He broke a connector while doing the replacement and they just had to give me a new device.

Apparently this a very common issue with IOS 17, especially 17.2, 17.3.

This will be my last Iphone for a long time. My device was so unstable from IOS overheating the boards that I had to take days off of work because of it. I do wonder if the device was infected with some type of government spyware like Pegasus.

Any phone that connects to a 5G cellular network will run hotter than a phone that only uses 4G/LTE; 5G simply requires more energy, because it is faster and the higher speed uses energy, similar a car. For comparison, my 14 Pro connects at 20-40 mbps using LTE, 250 mbps on 5Guc. But you pay for the extra speed in energy consumption.

As to battery drain, if you charge the phone overnight, every night, and it lasts to the next night without needing to charge during the day, it is working normally.

I am sorry, sir, but you are not grasping the situation. The phone becomes UNUSABLE. Typing a message can take minutes for two words to show up in the typing field, the phone app takes minutes to actually take the picture after you touch the button (or closes completely), emails take minutes to show up in preview, etc. The phone becomes EXTREMELY hot and refuses to shut down until it is cooled off with an ice pack and a fan. I’m not really sure what else you would call this other than overheating. Just because you aren’t experiences an issue, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Please don’t minimize other people’s tech issues for the sake of semantics.

For the record, this has happened to my iPhone 13 mini (minutes) after the 17.2 update (and continues through the 17.2.1 update).

I'm not sure why but, my 14 pro also randomly just got super hot running 17.0.3 and went crazy. The phone was unusable and I had to force reset. The phone never came up with an overheating notification though, so I'm not sure what was going on. I was just scrolling through instagram and had maybe 10 minor apps open in the background.

My iphone 13 has experienced exactly the same issues since installing IOS17. Was fine up until installed. Now overheats to the point it is unusable and you cannot hold it (too hot), then it just dies. I tried apple support but they were useless so I guess I will have to take it to an apple store. I have not had a problem previously, this has only occurred since IOS17!!
