I am not getting most of my messages on my mac pro. What could cause this?
I get them on my iphone no problem. The computer just has really old messages.

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are unable to see text messages on your Mac that are on your iPhone. One way to ensure that all your devices have all your messages is to enable iCloud for Messages: Set up iCloud for Messages on all your devices - Apple Support
If that is not an option for you, please make sure you have Text Message Forwarding enabled on your iPhone and Mac: Forward SMS/MMS text messages from your iPhone to your Mac or iPad - Apple Support
