An Early 2015 MacBook can be upgraded as far as Monterey (macOS 12.*), but no further.

That should be far enough to manage recent iPhones. If you assume that the version of macOS needed to manage an iPhone is based more on the version of iOS the iPhone runs, than on the particular iPhone model, then
Upgrade your iPhone from iOS 16 to iOS 17 (assuming that it qualifies), and you may find that an old Mac running El Capitan or Sierra is suddenly no longer able to manage that iPhone. Or that a Mac that was running High Sierra and iTunes 12.8.3 needs a new version of iTunes: 12.9.

Note that even if you are not using your Mac to manage your iPhone, there are a number of iCloud synchronization features that you can use to link your Mac and your iPhone. Mac requirements vary by feature, as described here:
