iPhone 15 Pro Photos are Dark

Pictures are coming out darker after being taken with the front & back cameras. Compared with the iPhone 14 Pro & the iPhone 14's photo looks better. Is anyone else experiencing the same thing with their new iPhone 15s or knows the fix to this? This is frustrating since I need to take photos & videos for work.

The only way I can get my image to look the same in the photos app and elsewhere is to Go to Settings -> Photos-> and toggle OFF View Full HDR. This shows the image as you can expect it to look outside of the photo app when exporting. You just lose all the lovely HDR brightness and contrast. Still very disappointing.

Just spoke to Apple... They told me that images taken in HDR can only be viewed on a device that also has the same HDR settings. Those setting are embedded in the image file apparently. When I try to export an image, it's adjusts it to a JPG and I lose all the HDR enhancements. There is no way too "turn off" HDR on the 15 Pro. I feel stuck with this now. I can see beautiful images on my phone, but can't send them anywhere. UGH

If your camera doesn't work properly, you need to have Apple look at your phone. I asked you want they told you in my first response but you haven't answered that. Did you have Apple run diagnostics on your phone?

If people don't take their phones to Apple for diagnostics, Apple has no way of knowing what's actually happening. Feedback is great but it's subjective. The diagnostics give Apple hard data.

UPDATE: I went to my

local Apple Store and had help from the Genius Bar. They agreed that there is something wrong with my camera. They replaced my entire phone. We tested the new one out in the store and compared the two phones - it seemed the saturation on my original phone was off. However, the Apple Store has no natural light in it(natural light is where I’ve noticed the main issue of the darkening) so we couldn’t truly test it out. When I got to my car and in natural light, it did the EXACT SAME THING. This is infuriating!

I encountered a similar issue as well. After adjusting the settings, specifically disabling the "Prioritize Faster Shooting" and enabling "RAW," I noticed some improvement in reducing graininess. However, adjustments could not avoid to washed-out colours in common scenes and an eerie transformation of human faces. The front camera's performance is also disappointing in all conditions, resulting in subpar image quality, dark and washed-out colours. I had high expectations for the iPhone 15 Pro, but it appears to perform worse than older iPhones and Android devices. I hope that this discussion gains visibility, and I look forward to Apple addressing these concerns and problems for its customers.

I’m posting the same type of content/response everyone else has posted on this thread. I have the iPhone 15 Pro and it has the same dark photo issue as others are reporting on this thread and other threads. I also had the iPhone 14 Pro which had the same dark photo issue. I did submit multiple tickets and Apple indicated they are aware of the dark photos but do not have a planned fix. Quoting an Apple employee I spoke to: “Instagrammers like it“. They don’t plan on fixing it because they don’t see it as “broken”. I finally did resort to going back to my iPhone 13 Pro as it is the last model that takes photos with accurate color and lighting. I don’t suggest getting rid of your iPhone 15 Pro and going to the 14 pro, as the camera is the same. The 15 pro has some great features, like the action button and other features that I found useful, it’s also really light due to the titanium… but I take a lot of pictures so for me the camera was more important. I want true to life color and lighting when possible. Regardless, I did submit a ticket as others have suggested in this thread. Thank you.

Guys I wanted to update you all.

i have called apple and they are happy for your phone to be sent away and for them to try and fix it.

however I have decided to go via O2 and they have offered me a brand new iPhone. They have told me they haven’t had many complaints when it comes to the iPhone 15 pro max … they also stated it could just be a “bad batch” so let’s hope you can all contact your contract company or go via apple for a solution.

So initially I thought switching the setting to HDR might have made a difference but actually it hadn’t so I went into store and after discussing with staff there, they said it must be a software issue… we can only hope Apple get enough complaints and they fix it soon… hopefully they are working on it already.. I did exchange my phone and it’s the same.. advice for now is to use the auto adjuster on edit to balance the lighting etc… not ideal but will do for now.. wondering in the meantime if there are other free camera apps worth using that produce pics which don’t need editing… could anyone recommend any please? Thank you x

You likely don’t know what true tone is supposed to be or have not had an iPhone 13 Pro or earlier. The iPhone 15 Pro has an issue with its photo processing system. And it all phones not just some of the phones. And if you read the rest of the thread you’ll see that they have not offered to fix yet, people have to put in the tickets using the Apple feedback form.
