problems with the external screen

I changed the refresh rate of my monitor not knowing that that rate was not supported by my monitor, my problem is that to keep it the same as before I would have to keep the screen of my Mac closed

(because I changed that setting when the screen was closed) but if I keep the screen closed I don't see anything and therefore I can't put the right frequency back.

any help?
