How to get Apple Numbers recognise USD is US$ (which is listed in Number Currency)?

What is best way for Apple Numbers to recognise currency that does not conform to Numbers Preferences?

I have to calculate prices in downloaded spreadsheets of numerous regions. Their currencies don’t match Numbers preferences.

Example is USD instead of US$

How are you downloading "spreadsheets"? CSV?

Can you give an example of what your table looks like? shift-command-4, drag to select area, release, start new post here and use the mountains-and-moon 'Image insertion' icon to attach the screenshot from the Desktop.

Also keep in mind that before importing you can go in your menu to File > Advanced > Language and Region ... and switch temporarily to a region that uses the currency format. Open the download with data, and switch back to your original region.

If none of that works then there are ways to strip the USD from the import. But that requires an understanding of the specifics, hence the request for a screenshot.
