I have settings set to keep emails in the trash for 30 days. iCloud is deleting them from the trash after 1 week. Not sure how I can change this it seems to be ignoring preferences in settings

Thanks for asking about Mac Mail.
Check here: Mail > Settings > Mailbox behaviors > erase deleted messages.
If it's currently set to one month, change it to one week. Then close the settings, and restart the Mac: Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support
Then, log in, go back, and change it back to one month. If it's still not working properly, please contact Apple Support: https://getsupport.apple.com
