Target Display Mode with 2020 MacBook Air and Mid-2014 iMac

I have seen several posts about this but just wanted to ask about my specific case, in the hopes of determining if I have any other alternatives.

I have purchased a Thunderbolt 2 cable and necessary USB-C adapter to try to connect my 2020 MacBook Air and Mid-2014 iMac with Target Display Mode. My MacBook Air is running Ventura and iMac, Big Sur.

I tried downgrading my iMac to High Sierra, however, I received the following message: "This copy of the "Install macOS" application is too old to be opened on this version of macOS". Even if this had worked, it would not change the fact that my MacBook was introduced after 2019 and is running a macOS past Catalina... so Target Display Mode will not work, correct?

Will appreaciate your help.

Kind regards.

Target Display mode is not supported on the 2020 MacBook Air and that makes the mid-2014 iMac irrelevant regardless of the cabling. If you need a larger display for the 2020 MacBook Air then purchase a dedicated 27 or 32-inch display connected via USB-C to HDMI or USB-C to USB-C depending on the external display configuration.
