No "Text Message Forwarding" option even after turning iMessages off & on again

I followed the steps on Forward SMS/MMS text messages from your iPhone to your Mac or iPad - Apple Support to try and forward texts to my Mac, but the Text Message Forwarding option still did not show up after doing those steps. (If you can't see Text Message Forwarding, go to Settings > Messages. Turn off iMessage, then turn it back on. Tap Send & Receive, tap Use Your Apple ID for iMessage, then sign in with the same Apple ID used on your other devices.)

What's the deal? For reference, I have an iPhone 15 Pro with iOS 17. Please disregard the note that says "iPhone 6, ios 12"

Hey mksaintsfan,

In your troubleshooting, did you also make sure that your Mac meets the requirements for this feature found here: System requirements for Continuity features on Apple devices - Apple Support

SMS and MMS messaging

SMS and MMS messaging requires an activated carrier plan on any iPhone using iOS 8.1 or later. You can then send and receive SMS and MMS messages from these devices:

* Any Mac using OS X Yosemite or later.
* Any iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iOS 8 or later.

If your Mac does meet the requirements, let us know more:

  • Which exact macOS version is installed? To find out select the Apple menu > About This Mac.
  • Is your Mac connected to a Wi-Fi network with internet access?

Keep us posted.

Take care!
