Mac won’t accept Apple ID password

Ok, so I just got this hand me down Mac from my sister, she cleared it completely and had me sign in, but after we had completed the sign in process it kept asking for the Apple ID password, it kept sayin it was wrong (which it wasn’t) so we checked it out on my phone and websites and apps that I signed in with, it was correct. But it wouldn’t sign in we restarted it like 12000 times but it still didn’t work, and my Apple ID does this almost all the time… I’ve tried every solution I’ve found online and other conversations but nothing works.

Hey amaraiyar,

It sounds like the Mac is Activation Lock, and needs the Apple ID and the password used to set up Find My. If your sister gave it to her, and she knows the information, she will need to enter that to remove Activation Lock.

Activation Lock is a security feature used to prevent others from gaining access to your information in the event the Mac is lost or stolen. This feature cannot be removed by restoring the Mac to factory settings.

The Apple ID used to enable Find My will need to be entered in order to remove Activation Lock. Have her follow one the options to remove Activation Lock here: How to remove Activation Lock.
