How can I convert all live photos to stills at thw same time? Trying to save space.

I have 2k+ Live Photos taking up memory space. I want to convert them to stills without doing it one at a time.

You can do it in one batch but it means exporting them to a folder on the Desktop and imported the converted files again. Here's how:

  1. go to the Media Types ➙ Live Photo smart album.
  2. select all (⌘+A)
  3. select the File ➙ Export ➙ Export unmodified original menu option.
  4. export to a folder on the Desktop.
  5. do a search in that folder for all files with .mov in the file name.
  6. drag those files to the Trash bin and empty.
  7. make sure the number of files left in the folder is the same as those in the Media Types ➙ Live Photo smart album.
  8. delete the photos from the Types ➙ Live Photo smart album - don't complete the deletion at this time.
  9. import the files from the folder on the Desktop.
  10. confirm that all photos have been successfully imported before completing the deletion of the original live photos.

Note: make sure you don't set the iPhone's camera to Live Photos when taking photos in the future.

On your iPhone try the method "Convert Multiple Live Photos to Still" as described here: https://techwiser.com/ways-to-convert-live-photos-to-normal-still-photos-on-iphone/

The trick is to use "Select All" in the album "Media Kind > Live". It will depend on the system version, if it is possible. And it will only work, if you do not have any Live effects applied to the Live Photos.
