Auto update turned off in settings, but apps still auto update on iphone

Hello,

This is about the app store updates. I have moved to a new iphone 13 Pro, iOS 17.0.3.

I always have all automatic updates switched off, for the app store too.

But my new phone still performs all these updates in the background, without any popup.

It also does this when the phone is not charging.

Does anyone have an idea what I can do about this?

Thanks!

Because Apple forced it despite your settings telling it not to. How do I know? Because they did it to me too. Not okay, Apple. Pretty messed up, actually.

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities petra-kim,

If you wish to disable all automatic updates on your iPhone, you'll need to manage the settings both for iOS updates, as well as App updates.

Update iPhone automatically
If you didn’t turn on automatic updates when you first set up your iPhone, do the following:
1. Go to Settings  > General > Software Update > Automatic Updates.
2. Turn on iOS Updates below Automatically Install and Automatically Download.
When an update is available, iPhone downloads and installs the update overnight while charging and connected to Wi-Fi. You’re notified before an update is installed.
