One Subscription for Two

The wife has 50GB subscription to iCloud.

I have 200GB.

Is her subscription superfluous?

In other words, can we cancel hers such that she shares mine?

What we both would like access to are - Mail, Calendar, Reminders, Notes, and Photos.

Would she have access to all of these if I were the only subscriber to iCloud?

An iCloud storage plan can be shared. See information in Share iCloud+ with your family - Apple Support

Note that sharing a storage plan doesn't change what either of you has access to -- data that was private before will still be private. However with or without sharing a storage plan, you can share some things including a Family photo album. See: Share iCloud+ with your family - Apple Support

I think you misunderstood.

Two different things:

1 - Sharing a iCloud storage plan allow one of you to buy more iCloud storage space and share that storage space. It does NOT share any of your data such as photos. See the information in Share iCloud+ with your family - Apple Support including the following:

When you share an iCloud+ subscription, everyone in the family group uses their own account. That way your photos, documents, and other information stay private, even though you're sharing access to the service. You simply share the features and space available in iCloud+ with your family members, so you only have one plan to manage.

2 - You can have a shared Photo library, whether or not you share an iCloud storage plan. The storage for the shared library counts towards the iCloud storage plan of the organizer. See: Set up or join an iCloud Shared Photo Library in Photos on iPhone - Apple Support

Thank you both for those responses.

<<without sharing a storage plan, you can share some things including a Family photo album>>

Wow! Really? Right now, I have 1640 photos, 189 videos on my iMac. I have the same on my iPhone. So do I understand correctly that if I use the "Share iCloud+ with your family" link, she can get the same on her phone? Even with cancelling her plan (since you did say - with or without sharing a storage plan)? Seems to good to be true! I'll wait to hear from you before going ahead and tinkering with the link that you provided. Thanks again for your assistance.

You are right - I did misunderstand. But I think we're getting there.

So from point 1. I take it that if I write a document in Pages and she does the same, then under the sharing plan, both are stored in the single 200GB plan that I have but I would only have access to mine and she would only have access to hers. Neither of us could see the other's document.

But point 2. seems to imply that an iCloud Shared Photo Library would result in her having the 1640 photos, 189 videos on her phone as well.

Have I finally got both those interpretations correct?

<<When you join a Shared Library, the photos and videos that you contribute move from your Personal Library to the Shared Library, and all members of the library can view, edit, and delete them. >>

Not to beat this issue to death but a question still remains. I want my Shared Library to be a replica of my Personal Library such that in my case all the 1640 photos, 189 videos would be in the Shared Library. So the question then is - is it kosher to move the entire contents of the Personal Library to the Shared Library? The part above in quotes seems to imply that the SL is a small subset of the PL.
