Stop sharing my birthday on other people claendar

My birthday is visible on my friend’s calendar. Somehow friends of my husband also show up on my contacts list and their birthdays on my apple calendar.

How do I stop at least my birthday showing up on other people’s calendars?

If your friend entered your birthday into the entry in their contacts for you, it will show up on their calendar (assuming they have an iPhone). Or, they may have entered it manually into their calendar so they can remember your birthday. Other than asking your friend to remove the information from their phone or calendar, there is no way you can prevent it from showing.

Are you sharing an Apple ID with your husband? Or an email/contacts account? If so and if he has entered their birthdays in Contacts, they will show up. The solution there is to stop sharing an Apple ID with your spouse.

Sharing your Birthday is accomplished by one of these actions:

  • Sharing a Calendar that contains your Birthday
  • Sending your Contact information to them. This can be done by you or anyone else that has your info in the Contacts app.
  • Third Party app where you have entered your birthdate, such as FaceBook.

It is simply not possible that they can obtain your Birthdate from your phone simply by knowing your phone number. To ease your concerns, just ask them.

I have the same issue! A friend, not even a close friend just someone who took my number for a quote - has my birthday, in red, in his iPhone calendar? How come??

It was done in one of these 3 ways:

  • Sharing a Calendar that contains your Birthday
  • Sending your Contact information to them. This can be done by you or anyone else that has your info in the Contacts app.
  • Third Party app where you have entered your birthdate, such as FaceBook.

You just need to figure out which one. If a friend adds your birthday to your contact on their device and then shares it, ask them not to. When sharing contact info, everyone has the option to choose "Shared Contact Info" under your contact when sharing and the Birthday is not selected by default, so the person sharing the info needs to select to share your birthday. It is not done by accident.

Facebook will also add your birthday to your contact info if it is available there. Anyone that visits your Facebook page can choose to update the contact info on their device with any information you have shared on Facebook. The Facebook Privacy Page on the App Store clearly states that it accesses your Contact Info. Every social media app on the App Store has a Privacy Page that shows what info it will access.

This process to send your Contact digitally will include your birthday, but you do have the option to not include it.

  • Open Contacts
  • Choose Contact you want to share
  • Tap Share Contact on the bottom of the screen
  • After you choose the person you want to send it to it will include all information you have in there, unless you tap "Manage Shared Info" that appears below the name of the contact you are sending. When you tap that button, you can exclude items that you do not want to share.

If your contact card does not contain your birthdate, then someone else could have sent them your card from their phone that does have your birthdate.

I have the same issue. Someone I hardly know and have only shared my phone number with knows my birthday. My birthday is private on all social media. They also have had alerts for others’ birthdays when they are not connected in any way except having a phone number. Many people complaining about this but no satisfactory remedy or explanation why it’s happening? My birthday appears automatically on my own phone calendar but i did not put it there and I do not share any calendars either. Apple support can you please help?

If someone puts your birthday in their calendar, they can set it so they get alerts. I don't have any way of knowing where they got your birthday, but there are other places one can get such information than social media.

You have no control over what other people put in their own calendars or how they choose to be alerted about events therein.

I appreciate you trying to puzzle this out but the person concerned did not enter my or any of these other barely known people’s birthdays into their calendar. It has been shared in some way from my phone number into their calendar. Many people online have this problem! It cannot just be explained away by saying “they must have got your birthday from elsewhere”.

We already discussed it! However I am unclear what the difference is between “sharing my phone number” and “ sending contact information “. I feel we are very close to getting to the bottom of this as it is possible I originally gave them my number via a digital message of some kind rather than in person. If so, how can I remove my birthdate from my Contact info please? And thanks for pitching in!

Ya Idris i get your point but I inferred from yr comment that they “found” it somewhere else., through deliberate intent Whereas in fact it was transferred to their phone without the sender’s knowledge, without the recipient’s knowledge and without my knowledge or consent. It was effectively an automated action by one person’s phone that she would never have willingly done. No one intended to share this information!

Thanks for the follow up post and the effort on your part to track down the exact reason why they had your birthdate. Any insinuation that Apple is leaking personal information is a trigger for many as they do take security seriously. I suppose by default when sending a contact they could just send name, number, and email, and then give the sender an option to send more information if desired, but that would not prevent them from sending it if they wanted to. Therein lies the danger in inference. And assuming intent. My larger point would be to not assume that there is something nefarious going on. In most cases, there is not. Just people who make mistakes.
