Mistakenly clicked on something a web page, and gave me something that I was not aware of, so now I have this pop ups that come in every five minutes, its a "Ghostery" apps wants me to download it. I don't want it. How can I get rid of it?

I realize the terminology can be confusing. Allow or block pop-ups in Safari on Mac - Apple Support for example refers to a totally different and completely unrelated annoyance. Annoyance is the one thing they have in common.
How do those popups make their appearance?
If they are Notifications that slide in from the upper right of your Mac's display read Stop unwanted Notifications - Apple Community to learn what happened and how to stop it from happening again.
Same thing happening to me! So far nothing works to stop the pop up notifications. I do not have the Ghostery App so I cannot go into notification preferences for this. Clicking on the notification takes you to the App Store and Ghosterly... I think it's an App Store issue, why are they allowed to send notifications/ads? I do not want the Ghostery App!
Update: I just completed a Bitdefender Scan and nothing found!
