MacBook Pro M1 - Microphone issues

M1 chip MacBook Pro Ventura OS 13.5.1 (22G90)

I've been having serious problems with my microphone lately:

First of all, I usually use my Huawei Ear Buds Pro headset when I connect to video meeting or calling platforms such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams. While there was no problem when I first started the meeting, at some point during the meeting my voice randomly cuts out and I cannot hear the other party. At first I thought this problem was caused by headphones, but when I connect without headphones, I suddenly encounter the same problem. When I experience this problem, changing my headphone settings to same as system fixes it for a while, then the same thing happens over and over again and it is very annoying for both me and the meeting participants.

Then, I checked the applications that are allowed to access the microphone in the Privacy & Security section of my computer, and only Google Chrome is available. I looked at the extensions and I couldn't see any extensions that access the microphone.

I've been experiencing this problem for about 2-3 months. Has anyone had a problem like this before or does anyone have any ideas on how to solve my problem?

Hello fndtbq,

It sounds like you may have issues with hearing the other person while on third-party app video calls when using headphones and without using headphones. In this case, we'd start by updating the software for the latest fixes:

  1. Update macOS on Mac
  2. We would also ensure that these third-party apps are also updated: How to manually update apps on your Apple device
  3. After this please test out the issue.

Should the issue persist, do you have the same issue while on FaceTime calls? Does this only occur when you contact a specific person? Tell us more, so we're on the same page.

Take care.
