Voicemail transcription no longer working with iOS17 update on AT&T

"Visual" voicemail, or voicemail transcription was working flawlessly prior to installation of iOS17. It has not been working since.

Has anyone figured out a solution to this annoying setback?

I believe I have the same issue with a twist.

I did follow the instructions and the voicemail area was updated for visual voice mail. But I have to go to my phone and go to voice mails to see it.

The thing is, before this update, my visual voice messages posted on my iPhone as a text message.

If it was a known person in my contact list, it would post the visual voicemail under their name in a text and if it was an unknown person it would post a text under this unknown phone number the call originated from.

It was a very cool feature I would love to get back, but I am unable to find instructions on how to reinstate this feature. This is an example of how it used to look. Are you able to help with this?

Hey ces007,

We always recommend ensuring your software is updated as updates help by installing bug fixes and include security updates. The current iOS version is 17.0.3, and to see what you have installed, tap Settings > General > About. If an update is needed, back up first. This guide can help with both steps: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

After updating, check for and install available carrier updates: Manually update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Then check to see if the visual voicemail feature is now working: Set up your voicemail on iPhone - Apple Support

If that doesn't help, we recommend reaching out to Apple Support to look into this more: Get Support

Take care!

SOLVED!!!

Despite my REGION setting being the US, my LANGUAGE was set for English UK. Apple Store guy solved this via this page here: Get live captions in real time on iPhone - Apple Support

I had been searching for "voicemail transcription not working" and "live voicemail not working"--didn't really think to look for "live captions".

Changing my LANGUAGE back to English US (or Canada) worked, Live Voicemail showed up immediately in my Phone settings, and my voicemails are back to being transcribed so I don't have to listen to them unless I want to.

Region settings ideally should not impact language settings, but c'est la vie I guess.

Hi there--sending a copy of your vm to texts is a great idea, but I did some searching and cannot find anything that mentions this, nor have I ever seen this (except with Google Voice sending via email to inbox), so I can't help but wonder if this is an option through your carrier? This was the only Apple page that I anticipated would have mentioned it, but did not: Use Live Voicemail on your iPhone - Apple Support

If you DO figure it out, please let us know!

Thanks for the reply! I confirmed I’m using iOS 17.0.3 yesterday prior to posting—sorry for not including that.

I actually do not have an update carrier settings option under settings, but do recall seeing this previously and in an earlier iOS version.

I also do not have a Live Voicemail option under phone settings. Also noticed this yesterday during my scouting the inter webs for some sort of solution.

I noticed when I installed iOS 17 and needed help with a setting that the specific feature was not even available to address in my settings (forgot what this applied to now).

All ears for any other suggestions!
