Running macOS Ventura 13.6, Safari 17.0 (18616.1.27.111.22, 18616).
Since I updated to Safari 17.0, DuckDuckGo has become unreliable. The page often locks up, at which point it doesn't allow me to scroll, click on a link, or type in the search box on the webpage. It's the only website that seems to have this issue.
Is this happening to anyone else, and is there a way of fixing this issue?

Things started working smoothly for me again once I went into Safari > Settings > Search and unchecked "Preload Top Hit in the background".
Still the same on 17.1 for me. DuckDuckGo just lags, and Apple's engineers are absolute garbage sometimes. May have to wait for the hip and cool new supposed new Mac OS release with a bunch more features we dont need to fix it.
After updating to 17.1 DuckDuckGo was great for several hours. Now it's doing the same freeze /lock up on search
Well (touch wood) mine seems OK now since I updated to OS 14.1 and Safari 17.1

I have this issue on my M2 MBA that's running Ventura 13.6.1 and Safari 17.1 (had the problem under 17.0 too). It's extremely annoying.
Unchecking 'pre-load top hit in the background' didn't help.
It was resolved for a short while. Back to freezing again. It isn't just Duck-Duck-go. I switched to Ecosia and the freezing problems continued.
I can reproduce this in private browsing tabs also using Safari 17.0 and Ventura 13.6

Teri54 I mean the complete safari configuration (the entire folders which holds the configuration for the app / but not the app ).
you also can do that with appcleaner.

Disabling preload. Since Safari 17.1.2 it seems to be working with that feature turned on again though.

The "Preload Top Hit in the background" was already unchecked. The issue still occurs. Are there any other ideas out there?
I have completely reset safari. Duck Duck Go search was fine for a week or two, but then it started locking up again. Reluctantly, I'm trying another search vendor to see if I get the same behavior.
