No purchase necessary, also no other real solution offered by Apple.
Just download Firefox browser or Brave browser... and when Safari balks at the odd website, launch one of those to get through it.
Problem solved.
Of course, it's always fun to get a shiny new Mac. 🙂

Safari gets some of its speed and light footprint by being very tightly tied into the MacOS operating system. Safari can generally not be upgraded without first upgrading MacOS.
One case where a retrofit is possible is if you are running the current MacOS OR one of the two previous versions. Often a modified version of Safari is provided when you perform a software update to obtain security updates (which you should be doing anyway)
Chase Bank at this writing requires Safari users to have at least Safari 16, which was made available in the two previous MacOS versions, MacOS 13 Ventura or MacOS 12 Monterey. Safari 16 was also provide as an update for MacOS 11 Big Sur.
if you have none of those, installing Firefox or Brave has already been suggested. Caution on using Chrome -- it is very resource-intensive compared to others.

The solution is keep your Mac up to date. Safari.app is baked into the macOS.
It does not pay to get too far behind in the hardware or software...
You can however try a different browsers and compare your results.
You can submit your Apple Feedback here: Product Feedback - Apple
i would buy some software, but this is not possible.
The MacBook is ok for my needs as it is.
Why there isn't such a solution?
